Nariz Roja A.C. (Red Nose) visits public hospitals to implement fun, participatory activities with children and youth who are receiving cancer treatments. One challenge faced by these patients is the need to constantly search for blood donors. This is made particularly hard by the low levels of voluntary blood donation in Mexico and compounded by the fact that many of these patients come from rural communities, and don’t have a network of contacts they can call on for donations in the cities where they are receiving treatment. To confront this problem, Maria Adriana created RED NR (Red Nose - Responsible Donations), a program of Nariz Roja that uses campaigns to promote, foment, and raise awareness about the need for voluntary blood donation, recognizing blood donors as noble and altruistic actors. Their goal is to create a wide network of support to ensure sufficient supply of blood and other blood components.
