SELECTED FOR: Laboratorio Social MX
COUNTRY: Mexico
Laboratorio Social MX (Social Laboratory MX) runs social entrepreneurship programs in troubled communities in Mexico. Their goal is to create new ventures, sources of employment, and opportunities for development for at-risk youth. Crime and violence are major obstacles to regional development in Mexico, affecting individuals, families and whole communities, while blocking economic growth. Many youth in Mexico don’t have access to education or formal employment. Despite these challenges, Laboratorio Social MX recognizes the potential of young people to contribute to economic growth, and to create community development approaches that solve local problems. They identify the talents of at-risk youth and help to mentor them as social change agents. They also help to provide inputs that allow these young people to launch new enterprises, and as entrepreneurs, consolidate new industries and sources of employment for the sectors of society that are most effected by delinquency.
